Mr. Mills taught my son in the third grade and he is now graduating from college. Each year when he gets home from college, he goes to Pine Valley to see Mr. Mills to continue to thank him for everything he taught him that he continues to use as he furthers his education. Mr. Mills looks at each child as an individual and finds the best way for that child to learn and succeed. My son was such a busy body and was easily distracted. Mr. Mills taught him how to stay focused and on task with innovative learning strategies. He incorporates music in his lessons to encourage learning and retention of information as well as sign language for the students to learn a new skill while maintaining the attention of his students. While teaching my son, Mr. Mills was able to get the class to meet author Christopher Paul Curtis who they were studying while he was in Wilmington. He is such a treasure to the learning community and to the students of Pine Valley Elementary. We need many more educators like Mr. Mills. My son contributes all of his educational success to what Mr. Mills taught him in 3rd grade. |
